Abortion has surfaced in the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate, according to LifeNews.com.

The network is reporting that Susan B. Anthony List, a leading national pro-life group, is spending $30,000 to run an ad on Christian radio stations in New Mexico to target U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, one of the two Republican candidates seeking the GOP Senate nomination. Wilson is competing against Steve Pearce for the nod to represent the GOP in November to replace the retiring Pete Domenici.

A call to the Susan B. Anthony List, based in Arlington, Va., confirmed the radio buy, which began Monday and will run for three weeks.

Wilson, among other things, has upset pro-life advocates by repeatedly voting to force taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research that requires the destruction of human life, the story says.

But she also has voted a certain way to upset pro-life advocates.

‘There are 4,000 abortions every day in the United States. That’s 4,000 children who weren’t given a chance for life," the SBA List ad says. "But not to Representative Heather Wilson. She’s part of the problem. Listen to the facts about her record.’

Wilson’s campaign on Monday said the ad wouldn’t have the hoped-for effect its supporters want come June 3.

"Special interest groups like these have spent millions trying to defeat Representative Wilson, but she has always prevailed in the end," said spokeswoman Whitney Cheshire. "Heather Wilson is a pro-life, common-sense conservative who can win in November."
