Gov. Bill Richardson sent out a fundraising e-mail on behalf of Harry Teague’s congressional campaign today. Teague is the Democratic candidate in the 2nd Congressional District.
After mentioning Democratic Senate candidate Tom Udall and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, Richardson went directly into his fundraising appeal for Teague. Richardson did not mention 1st Congressional District candidate Martin Heinrich or 3rd Congressional District candidate Ben Ray Lujan.
"For the first time in a few years we have an opportunity to put a Southern New Mexican in the Congressional majority where he will be heard on issues important to us," Richardson wrote in the e-mail with the subject line, "Fixin’ to Lead."
"But electing Harry and bringing real change to the 2nd District will require your help and support. By getting involved in Harry’s campaign, you can help ignite the most transformative election in a generation."
Democrats currently hold the majority in the House of Representatives by more than 30 seats, and are expected to extend their majority this November. The 2nd Congressional District seat is currently held by Republican Steve Pearce who is running for Senate against Udall.
Richardson endorsed Teague in the days leading up to the Democratic primary in the 2nd Congressional District. Teague won the primary against Bill McCamley by a narrow margin.
Richardson sent the e-mail to Harry Teague’s e-mail list.
The most famous fundraiser Richardson will hold, however, is for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. Richardson is attempting to help Clinton pay off her substantial campaign debt.
Teague also has the support of Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who he grew up with in Hobbs.
