While many people in the Denver community laud the economic impact of the Democratic National Convention, some are not so happy about the visitors who are in town.

I spoke to a security guard at a downtown construction site. When I asked the hard hat-wearing security guard what he thought about working downtown, he said immediately, "I want to run all these people over in the crosswalk." Jaywalking seems to be a particular pet peeve of this security guard’s.

When asked if jaywalking is normally a problem, he said, "No. This isn’t New York."

Also, the police’s vigilance on targeting certain people was frustrating.

"I’m a personal bodyguard too," he told the Independent, "and the police go after anyone who’s wearing a gun."

But the one thing that every downtown Denver resident or worker mentions is the traffic. "My commute is normally about ten minutes," the guard said. "It took me an hour to get to work today."
