If you think the stage and the Pepsi Center as a whole look impressive on TV you are both right and wrong. Right, because the set is incredibly impressive. Wrong, because it is even more impressive in person.

The pictures on TV don’t do the Pepsi Center justice. The place doesn’t look like a basketball or hockey arena. … Instead, it looks like it was specifically designed for such an event. And those giant screens next to the stage? Crystal clear from the floor.

Of course, the New Mexico delegation has relatively good seats. Only Indiana’s delegation sits between New Mexico’s delegation and the stage.

One of the New Mexico delegates, Ernest Chavez, described himself as a “Hillary delegate.” When asked if he would be voting for Obama, Chavez looked incredulous and said he would of course be voting for the Democrat. When asked why not McCain, Chavez said, it was “because of the Keating 5 scandal.”

McCain was one of five U.S. senators — the “Keating 5″ — accused of corruption as part of the savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The rest of the delegates nationwide seemed very excited about one thing: Electing Obama as president — from the self-described Obama delegates to the self-described Hillary delegates.
